I made this cake for the easter bunny dinner. I’m pretty happy about how it turned out, although I should think of a better way to transport it. The cake was kinda crying after the trip from Prospect Height to Chelsea. :(

Passover Dinner 2009

距離passover已經有一段時間
發懶到最近才處理照片

紐約今年的春天被偷走了
上禮拜還四十幾度, 沒幾天就飛奔到九十度
直接從冬天跳夏天
今天天氣像台灣, 悶又熱, 九十度
但明天的天氣預報溫度打對折變四十五度到五十七度, 很怪異

雖說沒有春天, 過敏還是來報到
這幾天不斷打噴嚏流鼻水, 眼睛紅腫發癢, 很不舒服
終於今天看了醫生拿藥, 希望快點好起來, 才可以到戶外抓點春天的尾巴

雜唸一堆, 回到mike媽媽驚人的手藝

鹽烤羊腿 Encrusted leg of lamb

The other day, I was reading the meat section from The Cook’s Book (again) in the middle of the night. Pictures of beautiful meats on every single page remind me of my duty as a carnivore. Coming across the “tunnel-boned lamb in a salt dough”, baking a big chunk of the meat in a salt dough sounds so amazing, I just couldn’t resist it anymore. After making some calls to similarly motivated meat-eaters, it’s settled – I AM making a leg of lamb!

我家有了新桌布

量身訂造的couture tablecloth!!!

yawen是和我很有緣份的好朋友, 從大學一直糾纏彼此到現在
很幸運的我們現在都在紐約, 還可以再繼續糾纏下去
她的手超巧也很有決心
有時聽到她說, 喔, 好想要一個yoga mat bag
two days later, BOOM!!! 就在facebook上看到剛做好的yoga mat bag的照片
從沒學過這些針線活, 之前竟然很大膽的幫她男朋友做了西裝背心, 還很合身很fancy..
簡直就只能說, 快點上Etsy開始發展另外一個事業啊!

Hill Country – Texas Barbecue

記得以前在Pittsburgh時都很瞧不起美國食物
總是覺得美國食物就是anything with ketchup
近幾年跟著Mike吃下來
覺得美國可說是肉食者的天堂

漢堡, 肉汁到處滴, 好吃的要翻天
Pastrami, 拿著肉片沾的芥末醬, 我第一次吃時只會一直說, 怎麼會這麼好吃
Barbecue, 先醃肉之後, 長時間煙燻出來的肉質更是柔軟風味多
難怪, 美國胖子那麼多是有道理的

Baumkuchen Ring 千層蛋糕

Baumkuchen, 直譯為樹蛋糕, 德國出生的甜點, 為我們所知的千層蛋糕, 被稱為蛋糕之王
傳說中, Johann Christian D Andreas Schernikow (1784-1852)製作出第一個千層蛋糕
不過也有人說是在1790年, 一個在Salzwedel小鎮的甜點師父為當時普魯士王特製的蛋糕
